“DRA, in my experience, is superior to other imaging facilities in the area. All aspects of patient care and delivery of service are characterized by outstanding compassion.”
Breast Ultrasound
Breast ultrasound may be requested to examine a lump in conjunction with a mammography being performed. Sound waves are used to produce an image of the internal structures. The sound is both transmitted and received by a transducer that rests on the skin surface. Ultrasound is painless. No special preparation is required.
How is Breast Ultrasound performed?
- You will lie on your back on an examination table with your arm raised over your head.
- An ultrasound technologist will apply a clear gel to the local area on interest. This allows for better contact with the body while eliminating any air pockets which could interfere with the imaging.
- The technologist will then press the transducer firmly against the skin and move it back and forth over the area.
- You may be asked to wait at the end of the exam while your exam is reviewed.
- This procedure usually takes about 30 minutes.
Pregnancy Policy:
All patients of childbearing age (10 - 54) will be required to sign that there is No Chance of Pregnancy prior to an imaging exam being performed (Exception: - Ultrasound). If there is a chance of pregnancy, STAT blood work will be ordered prior to the procedure being performed to establish that there is no chance of pregnancy.
In the event, you are pregnant and the exam is deemed necessary by your physician, you will be shielded and monitored with a radiation badge.
