   High Definition MRI

What is High Definition Magnetic Resonance Imaging?

High definition Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is the latest generation of MRI scanners that create images of the body using a magnetic field and radio waves.  As a versatile, powerful and sensitive tool, MRI can generate thin section images of any part of the body from any angle in a relatively short period of time.  With the addition of high definition, we are now able to provide images at a higher resolution than ever seen before, decrease patient motion artifact and shorten scan times in a much more comfortable and relaxed environment.

In addition to MRI offering images of the internal soft structures of the body, it also visualizes both the venous and arterial vessels within the body. This is known as MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography).  This feature allows physicians to gain the same multi-dimensional imaging of blood vessels as offered with conventional MRI, supplementing and often replacing conventional catheter angiography.

  Who Will Perform the Exam?

Only Radiologic Technologists registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists specializing in MRI will perform these exams. They are assisted by a full team of specialized radiology registered nurses.

What are the Preparations for the Exam?

If you have a PACEMAKER, SURGICAL CLIPS, PROSTHESIS, METAL IMPLANTS or any other object in your body, you should notify the nurse or technologist before entering the magnet area. The staff will determine if the exam can safely be completed. All other metallic objects should be removed before entering the magnet room. If you are claustrophobic you should inform your physician and our staff prior to your appointment. Our caring personnel will assist you in successfully completing the exam. Your pre-exam preparation will depend upon the type of exam your physician has requested.

Some studies may require fasting prior to the exam if it requires the use of contrast material for further enhancement of the area being imaged. Other studies do not require any further preparation beyond removing all jewelry or body piercing prior to your arrival at DRA Imaging.  Please check with either your physician or our office in regards to any special instructions or questions you may have related to your exam.

  What  Happens During the Procedure?

An MRI is completely non-invasive and painless. With the help of the MRI technologist, you will be positioned on a padded   table and slowly moved into the MRI machine.

For your comfort you will be given ear plugs during the exam. You will remain in contact with the technologist during the entire exam. Once the exam is complete you will be brought out of the magnet and assisted off the table by the technologist or nurse.

When Will My Physician Receive Results?

Upon completion of the exam, a Board Certified Radiologist will interpret the procedure and a report will be sent to your physician. All reports are also available by fax or phone depending on your physician’s preference.
