In
1971, Dr. Jerome Krieger formed Hudson Valley Radiologists, P.C. (HVR)
and became the chief radiologist for Vassar Brothers Hospital, now
known as Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Over the next two decades,
Vassar’s Imaging Department became the premier hospital-based
radiology center of the mid Hudson Valley. The doctors of HVR
subsequently formed the partnership known as Dutchess Radiology
Associates in order to read imaging exams performed outside Vassar
Brothers Hospital.
Initially, Dutchess Radiology
Associates read only X-ray films from an office located in Hopewell
Junction. In 1985, Dutchess Radiology Associates opened an office
on Delafield Street which included the first MRI facility in the
Hudson Valley. Shortly afterward Dutchess Radiology opened a third
outpatient office that offered X-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and
mammography on West Cedar Street.
As technology advanced in
medical imaging, Dutchess Radiology again upheld their cutting-edge
mission in 1992 with a new state-of-the-art scanner offering not
only MRI but introducing MRA (noninvasive angiography replacing many
diagnostic catheterization procedures). Along with this expansion a
new cutting- edge CT scanner was also introduced to the Delafield
site.
In 1998, under the direction of
Dr. Joel Canter, Dutchess Radiology Associates shortened its name to
DRA Imaging P.C. and opened the Columbia Street office in
Poughkeepsie. This new facility consolidated the Delafield & West
Cedar locations to one multi-modality imaging center. This became
DRA’s flagship imaging center, offering PET /CT, Nuclear Medicine,
MRI, multi-slice CT, Ultrasound, Digital Mammography, Bone
Densitometry, Digital X-ray, Fluoroscopy, Image Guided Biopsy, EVLT
for varicose veins, and Sclerotherapy. The new technology as well as
the physical layout of the office featured unprecedented levels of
comfort, safety, and imaging accuracy. In the past eight years many
other Radiology practitioners from all over the United States have
visited Columbia Street to view this state-of-the-art operation.
The DRA Fishkill location at
400 Westage Business Center Drive opened in the fall of 1998
and has recently undergone a major expansion. It now provides
high field MRI, multi-slice CT, Ultrasound, Digital Fluoroscopy and
Radiography, Digital Mammography, Bone Densitometry, EVLT,
Sclerotherapy, and Image- Guided
Biopsy.
In June of 2005, in addition to
being the house Radiologists for Columbia Memorial Hospital, DRA
further expanded into Columbia county, opening an office in Hudson,
NY. This Columbia County location brought multi slice CT,
Ultrasound, X-ray, Mammography, and Bone Densitometry to an
outpatient imaging setting that features the first 3-Tesla MRI in
the Hudson Valley.
In January 2007, Hudson Valley
Radiologists will begin interpretations for Sharon Hospital.
The doctors of DRA have a long
history of providing professional interpretations for local doctors'
offices. DRA currently reads ultrasound for several physician
practices within the Hudson Valley area. DRA also interprets MRI
exams for Columbia Magnetic Imaging Center in Hudson, New York. We
are also the radiologists for Vassar Brothers Medical Center,
Columbia Memorial Hospital as well as Sharon Hospital under the name
Hudson Valley Radiologists P.C. The most sophisticated minimally
invasive procedures offered by Interventional Radiology are
performed by our Board Certified Interventionalists at Vassar,
including Uterine Fibroid Embolization. Procedures such as endo-venous
laser treatment for varicose veins, related diseases and PICC Line
placement can now be performed at some of our outpatient imaging
centers.
Since its inception as an
offshoot of Hudson Valley Radiologists, P.C., DRA Imaging, P.C. has
grown to include three independent office sites as well as 18
physicians, 4 physician assistants and over 130 support staff
members. The growth and success of their outpatient services has
enabled DRA to acquire the most advanced diagnostic imaging tools
available in the region. Time and again, DRA has been first to bring
medical technologic innovations to the Hudson Valley from the early
days of ultrasound and Cat Scans to MRI’s and sophisticated
minimally-invasive treatment procedures to the latest imaging scans
such as CT angiography of the coronary arteries. Many components of
this state-of-the-art diagnostic technology available at the offices
of DRA Imaging, P.C., are available nowhere else in the Hudson
Valley Region and only a few places in the United States.
From the beginning, the goal of the physicians of
DRA has always been to combine cutting-edge technology with
sensitive patient care for the residents of the Hudson Valley.
These objectives have been brought together to make up the corporate
vision statement, which all members of DRA, and HVR are proud to
maintain:
“Leaders in Diagnostic Imaging,
Champions of Patient Care.”
